SendToX App Reviews

Works suprisinly well!! Good stuff and a bargain!

Having run on FCP 7.03 on OS 10.5.8 for a long time we purchased another work station to migrate with some safety to both the 64 bit world and to try FCPX and Premiere 6 (juries out on that decision). I have both FCP 7 and FCPX on the same machine and they seem to play well together. I bought 7toX with no real expectations but at $10 what the heck. Run FCP7 export sequence to XML, import into 7toX, send to FCPX and it works flawlessly. A few 3rd pasrty transitions where replaced by disloves but just watching the show (about a 5 min piece) I wouldnt have known. Great work and a nice vehicle for for our transition.

Disregard the last review

You do need both FCP 7 and FCPX but they can both be on the same machine at the same time (they just cant be run at the same time). Im personally amazed a program like this (and its inverse) exists. It goes to show you that Apples line about how the two programs work entirely different from each other is just BS. This small compnay figured it out in both directions in no time.

Excellent Utility App for FCP 7 / X

This application is an excellent and necessary addition for anyone who has been editing in FCP 7 and wants or needs to transfer a sequence to FCP X. I have read some of the reviews and I think people have been a little harsh on this program. Yes, some things dont translate perfectly but when translating/transferring something this drastically different as far as workflow is concerned I think it does the job. I needed it for a project I was working on for a client that I started in FCP X but they had an early cut they had done in FCExpress. I opened their older project in FCP 7.0.3 (again, I think they may have edited in FCExpress) I relinked the media, exported the XML, opened 7toX for Final Cut Pro, it asked me if I wanted to open it in FCP X and boom! I had this multilayered timeline in FCP X from FCP 7. Excellent! For me, I come from the days of dealing with all kinds of post issues (anyone remember matchback-editing 24fps on a 30fps system with no other option?) The few incorrect elements that occurred (text alignment and size, mainly) were minute. This extremely affordable application has given us something that Apple should have done in the first place - the ability to transfer an FCP7 timeline into FCPX. And Im certain this application will continue to be developed and consistent as FCPX gets better.

Useless...

I discovered yesterday that the school upgraded computers in the lab and the new disk image no longer had Final Cut Pro 7 and now only have Final Cut Pro X. I needed to open one of my old projects and make ONE change and then render it out. I know the majority of blame lies on Apple for creating an upgrade of a software that was not compatible with previous versions, but all the hype about this app is just that hype. It didnt even work to recreate the project in the Project Manager. And all of my carefully build timelines were missing. I understand that not all things were suppose to be translated, but not even the XML information such as the location of my source media came through in the translation. I suspect that the only type of file it will work for is a simple list of clips in the Project Window with one timeline, but from my experience it doesnt work for anything more complex, which every project with tons of meadia and mutiple time is, and for me thats every project. I spend $10 to import names of my clips that by the way were NOT linked to the source media. If I sound upset its because I didnt just waste money I wasted TIME I didnt have trying the different export versions and seeing if I can fix up the project, reconnect media, all possible but it was faster to just rebuild my project. Like I said USELESS...

1st attempt Failed. 2nd—CLIPS ALL OUT OF ORDER!

The first time I tried to use the app on a full project. It took 3.5 hours to process and then failed to transfer to fcpX. The second time I tried to just convery a single sequence with nothing but a multiclip in it. It made it to fcpX, but only after the clips were de-synced and all out of order! What a Waste of Money! What a Waste of Time! I could have reconstructed the whole * project by now!! Id like my money back please. Ive received nothing I was led to expect.

This thing is a real chamption!

If youve been involved in the world of non-linear video editing for more than a couple years, youve undoutedly got filex in Final Cut Pro 7 or earlier, Adobe Premiere Pro, and others. 7toX ably provides you the power to work with all of them! Of course, there are the occasional hiccups that come from sourcing a file from a totally different ecosystem and editing it in a modern application, but with very few exceptions 7toX has provided me a seamless experience to let me pick up where another editor on one of the aforementioned platforms has left off. And at the price, its certainly a no-brainer. I wouldnt have been surprised to learn it sold for ten times the current asking price!

Can’t use it

I got this thinking that the FCP7 projects that I had completed would open up in FCPX — but it needs to be opened in FCP7 FIRST and then translated to XML before this app will transfer it. My computer died along with FCP7 and the new computer won’t let me use it so I am SCREWED!

Works great & fantastic customer support

The application worked exactly as claimed! It’s also worth noting that I sent in a support email asking questions about .fcp format conversion without XML export, which is unrelated to the actual features of the app. I just wanted to ask them if they knew of a way to assist with an added bind I found myself in. Within a couple hours I had two thoughtful responses from different people. Honestly, have you ever had TWO quick replies on the same day? I haven’t. Fantastic app and clearly run & supported by a dedicated team. Highly recommend.

Worked really well!

Not the sort of App I use daily, but I just moved a feature length documentary from FCP 7 to FCPX 10.1. The doc had been edited over 3 1/2 years in FCP 7 so you can imagine the timeline! I exported the final Sequence to XML …. ran it through 7 to X … and imported into FCP X. Took 10 minutes. The resultant Project timeline in FCP X was a compounded clip, which when opened revealed a very well laid out Ptoject … seemed to be clearer than when I last attempted this a few versions ago ( on a different project! ). So now Im set to go doing text work, color correcting and will lay the final mix into this for output. Couldnt be happier.

Does not work

I am extremely disappointed about this app. Crash many times. Not a great app. Dont buy it!!

Change the Name to 7XML to X

Change the Name to "7XML to X". Since your App can’t open a .fcp file. I have no 7 XML files.

Don;t buy doesn’t work!!

It does not work as advertized …. will NOT recognize any .fcp file … and the seller doesn’t seem to care …. why would they they have your money … I wasted 9.99 …… worlthless DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

Works great

It worked just as expected. I transfered from a FCP 6 XML file and it worked fine. The only issues I ran into were with levels of audio not always transfering and freeze frames. Other than that it’s been perfect. Ignore the person below that said it doesn’t work. He was trying to use a a Final Cut Pro project file not the exported XML that the App is made for. His ignorance shouldn’t stop you from using this great product.

7toX for Final Cut Pro Application update failed to download

7toX for Final Cut Pro Application update failed to download all the time after updating to OS X Yosemite, I used the purchases page as they asked to do that in vain

Read this if you’ve had FCP7 problems

I ran into many problems importing the XMLs into FCP 7. Today I tried importing into Premiere Pro and got much vbetter results. It seems many of the problms I’ve had were due to limitations in FCP7s XML import. One key problem has to do with audio clips. - FCPX allows sub-frame editing of audio clips. - On export, Xto7 does not round the in-out values to nearest frame. - Premiere Pro is able to import this without a hitch. - FCP 7 truncates the clips and generally makes a mess. As the program is called Xto7 (and not X to XML), I think Assited Editing should fix that. In summary, it’s far from perfect, but it is the best (and only…) solution available for this kind of workflow.

Need Final Cut Pro 7 to use!!!!!

STEP ONE: 1. Open the project into Final Cut Pro 7 So the program is useless if you do not have Final Cut Pro 7 Goodbuy $9.99 Final Cut Pro 7 is NOT supported on Mavericks, So I need to buy an old mac computer and an old copy of FCP 7 just to open a file to make a few edit changes? and buy a one time use piece of software for $9.99? The name of this company is Intellegent Assistance. hmmm Does Apple still have a software department, or was that folded into Jony Ives’ hardware design department?

Doesn’t work.

Exported as advertised and all it does is create a bad library in X with none of my previous work. Piece of crap!

Great idea… Needs work.

This application is seemingly great. Even upon first use, it performed quickly, opened an FCP7 sequence without issues in FCPX. The reason I acquired this app is because I needed to port over a massive batch (100+ and counting) of archived video, complete with head/tail graphic and textual title slides. Unfortunately, the spacing of the text in my sequence is not identical to that in FCP7, so I’ll now have to go through and manually change every single slide. Since there are 3 slides per video, that makes 300+ manual changes I have to make. For my purposes, this tiny oversight renders this software nearly useless. I’d really love it if the developers came up with a fix before my August 5th deadline...

Switched from Final Cut 7 to Final Cut Pro X

Holy smokes this is an amazing tool! Being able to import sequences helps the learning curve when trying to start learning Final Cut X.

Flawless Premiere CC —> FCPX transfer

Just read Larry Jordan’s tutorial on opening Premiere projects in FCPX and this worked great to translate the XML exported from Premiere so that FCPX can read it. Beats buying/learning a new NLE if you’re getting project files from other editors.
